Scene Study Student Jacob Kamhis Credits The Acting Center for Producing TV Shows

Our Scene Study student, Jacob Kamhis, visits us during the year when he isn’t working in Hawaii. After his visit to our school last year, we got this update from him about his new opportunities since studying with The Acting Center:

Over the last few months, I produced eight programs for a local TV station, from a 1-hour documentary “The Future of Clean Energy” to half-hour TV shows. These shows are an extension of an article that I published in Pacific Edge Magazine entitled, “Renewing Energy in Hawaii.”

I credit The Acting Center for giving me the skills and techniques that encouraged me to expand from being a professional writer to include a producer of TV programs for important topics. I have taken acting classes and am currently enrolled on the Directors class at The Acting Center.

Producer Jacob Kamhis and Henry Curtis, executive director of "Life of the Land," discuss the environmental impacts of clean and renewable energy sources for the documentary "The Future of Clean Energy."

Hawaii State Governor Neil Abercrombie is interviewed by Jacob Kamhis, producer of the documentary "The Future of Clean Energy."

Erika Christensen Returns in the Upcoming Season of Parenthood

NBC Renews ‘Parenthood’!

Erika Christensen and the rest return in the Jason Katims drama for a fourth season. Erika studied at The Acting Center and has been through the scene study and improv.

The Acting Center Alum Bodhi Elfman Books Recurring Character on Fox’s Touch

Tonight, May 10th, the Fox show, Touch starring Kiefer Sutherland will begin an arc for a character Bodhi plays called Avram.

Avram is an Hassidic Jew, who besides being versed in the Kabbalah, also expounds on Plato, numerology, spirituality and mysticism.

Bodhi had this to say, “I found it very satisfying to play someone who thinks he knows everything about everything…”

Acting Center student, Grace Phipps, stars in Disney Channel’s upcoming “Teen Beach Musical”

Grace was whisked off to Puerto Rico to shoot the upcoming Disney Channel film which is a modern-day take on the classic beach musicals of the 1960’s. It’s about a surfer girl who is forced by her parents to depart for boarding school and leave her boyfriend behind. Instead, they wind up being transported into his favorite classic 1960’s surf movie musical, where they have to figure out how to fit in.

The movie stars Maia Mitchell (Mortified, which aired on Disney Channel Australia), Brady (Ross Lynch, from Disney Channel’s Austin & Ally), Garrett Clayton (Shake It Up), Grace Phipps (The Nine Lives of Chloe King), John DeLuca (Wizards of Waverly Place), Chrissie Fit (General Hospital), Kevin Chamberlin (Jessie) and Steve Valentine (I’m In The Band).

We are delighted for Grace and can’t wait for the movie to hit theaters in 2013!

“3 Secrets to Booking Commercials” Seminar Huge Success

On April 28th the Acting Center was buzzing with current students, alumni and new faces to The Acting Center who came for the “3 Secrets to Booking Commercials” seminar. Given by Acting Center Co- Founder, Eric Matheny.

Here is what one of our students had to say. “The Commercial seminar was seriously SO inspiring. I love how Eric made acting such a simple and doable thing. And everything he said about agents was so useful and gave me a brand new viewpoint on how I can work better with my agent.” HM

On April 24th, The Acting Center was happy to host a team from TV One’s “Life After” filming a web documentary about our student Ernest Thomas ( ” What’s Happening,” Everybody Hates Chris” and the upcoming Rob Zombie film, “The Lords of Salem.”) Ernest spoke very highly of his work at The Acting Center and said his career was renewed after starting classes at our school. We are honored to be working with such a great actor and man.

Justin Bieber Tweets About Mischievious Studios ‘Justin Bieber – Boyfriend Parody’

Justin Bieber recently caught wind of Mischievious Studios ‘Justin Bieber – Boyfriend Parody’ and tweeted about it and posted it on his Facebook wall! Since then the awesomely funny video has exploded with over 530,000 views to date! Nick Lane (The Acting Center Alum) of Mischievious Studios writes “We can die happy now…” Starring in the video are The Acting Students/Alums: Collin Levin as Justin, Tamra Meskimen as the mom, Nick Lane as the police officer, Suzie Riemer, Mecca White and Avalon Peterson as the Biebettes.
